She began her journalism career as a summer intern while studying at the University of Oslo, later working for Morgenbladet and VG. Hoel specialized in fashion and cultural topics, worked as a programmer for NRK, and received several awards for her contributions. She was passionate about her hometown Oslo, especially the Grünerløkka district, and authored several books and articles about it. In addition to her journalism, she taught various courses and led city walks, showcasing her local heritage.
