She began her artistic journey in the late 1970s and remained active until advanced age when she had to stop painting due to vision issues. Barba created over 200 artworks during her career, which were recognized for their purity and detail. Her most significant award was the First Prize at the I Naïve Painting Exhibition in Aranjuez. In 2009, she published her memoirs titled 'Mercedes Barba. Vida y Pintura Naïf', reflecting on her life and passion for painting.
