Milne Charles "Mel" Pickings was a prominent Canadian politician born on August 19, 1926, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He represented the Lunenburg West electoral district in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1978 to 1988 as a member of the Progressive Conservative Party. He entered politics by defeating the Liberal incumbent Maurice DeLory and served in various ministerial roles, including Minister responsible for the Emergency Measures Organization and Minister of Housing. He did not seek re-election in 1988 and passed away on February 1, 2019.
