Max Schürer was a Swiss mathematician, astronomer, and geodesist born on April 18, 1910, in Vienna and died on October 10, 1997, in Bern. He served as the director of the Astronomical Institute at the University of Bern and established the Zimmerwald Observatory in 1955, which later developed into a world-renowned satellite observation station.
