Mauritius Renninger was a crystallographer and theoretical physicist, born on June 8, 1905, and passed away on December 22, 1987, in Marburg. He received his doctorate in Munich in 1932 and worked as an assistant to Paul Peter Ewald before moving to I.G. Farben in Oppau. In 1946, he returned to academia as an assistant to Carl Hermann and was later appointed a professor at Philipps University of Marburg. He is known for his work on the stimulation of diamonds in 1937, which is referred to as the Renninger effect.
