Matti Vilho Olavi Markkanen, later known as Martin Edholm, was a Finnish bank robber born on December 4, 1937, in Lappo, Finland, and died on March 2, 2016, in Helsinki. Known as the 'Volvo robber' in Denmark for his use of Volvo cars as getaway vehicles, he committed hundreds of crimes primarily involving bank robbery across almost all Nordic countries from the 1960s to the early 1980s. Arrested in 1980, he spent 20 years in prison and escaped twice. There are claims he also served as a spy for the KGB.
