Matthias Günther, born on August 19, 1955, in Leipzig, Germany, is a mathematician specializing in Partial Differential Equations. He is a professor at the University of Leipzig, where he completed his PhD in 1983. Günther won a bronze medal at the International Mathematical Olympiad in 1972. From 1999 to 2002, he served as the director of the Mathematical Institute and dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science. Notably, in 1989, he simplified Nash's embedding theorem and presented his work at the 1990 International Congress of Mathematicians in Kyoto.
