Matthew Brittain, born on May 5, 1987, is a former South African Olympic rower. He made his debut at the 2007 World Rowing Championships, finishing in 21st place in the lightweight four without coxswain. In 2012, he and his teammates won a gold medal at the Summer Olympics, marking South Africa's first Olympic gold medal in rowing. At the time, he was pursuing an honors degree in economics and had rowed for Tukkies. He also participated in a junior world regatta, four World Cups, and three senior world events.
