Masao Takenaka (June 9, 1925 – August 17, 2006) was a prominent Japanese theologian at Doshisha University, where he specialized in Christian Ethics and Sociology of Religion. Born in Beijing and raised in China, he studied theology at Doshisha and earned his doctorate at Yale Divinity School. An advocate for ecumenism and cultural integration in theology, he famously defined God as the 'rice of life'. He championed Christian art as an honorary president of the Asian Christian Art Association.
