His pen name reflects the loss of his father at the age of 17. He is best known for his work 'The Wizard City of the Green People'. Under his real name, he translated biographies of scientists and wrote non-fiction. He also went by other pseudonyms, including Isao Kawabata, Chihiro Miki, and Hanasawa Yoneda, and served as the editor of 'Science Illustrated'.
