Marvin Leroy Maple (1936-2016) was an American grandfather who kidnapped his two grandchildren in 1989 following a custody dispute. After relocating to San Jose, California, with his grandchildren, they started a new life under assumed identities. Maple's grandchildren were educated and remained with him until adults. He was arrested at the age of 73 in 2009, and faced charges in Tennessee, receiving four years' probation. Maple passed away in 2016 at the age of 80.
