Marva Collins (August 31, 1936 - June 24, 2015) was an American teacher who founded Westside Preparatory School in Chicago's Garfield Park neighborhood in 1998. She managed the school for over 30 years until it closed in 2009 due to low enrollment and funding issues. Collins became known for her traditional teaching methods, effectively helping impoverished students, many of whom were labeled as learning disabled. She authored several motivational books and articles about her teaching philosophy. Her life story gained wider recognition in 2020 with a biographical television movie titled "The Marva Collins Story".
