Marty Symes (1904–1953) was an influential American lyricist, born in Brooklyn, New York. He gained prominence through collaborations with notable composers such as Jerry Livingston, with whom he wrote the hit 'Darkness on the Delta' in 1932. Symes also wrote lyrics for the timeless jazz standard 'There Is No Greater Love' in 1936. His work, including 'I Have But One Heart', was featured in the iconic 1972 film The Godfather. His contributions to music greatly impacted the jazz genre and left a lasting legacy.
