Martin Knottenbelt was a Dutch national born on March 12, 1920, in Batavia, Dutch East Indies. He studied at the University of Oxford before serving in World War II. Enlisting in 1942, he was part of a Dutch commando unit in Europe and the Pacific until 1946. After being honorably discharged in 1960, he became an anti-war activist, focusing his efforts in Europe and the United States. Knottenbelt passed away on August 19, 2004, in The Hague.
