Martin Karplus, born on May 15, 1930, is an American theoretical chemist originally from Austria. He serves as a professor of chemistry at Harvard University and directs the joint laboratory of biophysical chemistry at the French National Centre for Scientific Research and the University of Strasbourg. In 2013, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry alongside Michael Levitt and Arieh Warshel for their contributions to the development of multiscale models for complex chemical systems.
