Marten Folkert Koopmans is a Dutch politician from the CDA born on August 11, 1939, in Lemsterland. He began his career at age 17 as a volunteer in his local municipality. After serving in the military, he returned briefly to local government. He then worked in Gaasterland and later became head of social affairs in Leeuwarden. In 1990, he was appointed as alderman and subsequently became the mayor of Wymbritseradeel until 2001. He later served as acting mayor of Bolsward and was involved with the Fryske Akademy.
