Marta Jara Hantke was a Chilean writer and short story author born on May 18, 1919, in Talca. She was part of the literary generation of the 1950s alongside writers like Mercedes Valdivieso and Elena Aldunate. Jara debuted in 1949 with a collection of stories titled 'El vaquero de Dios' and gained significant recognition for her work 'Surazo,' set in Chiloé, which won the Alerce Prize in 1961 and the Municipal Prize for Literature in Santiago in 1963. She passed away on October 21, 1972, in Santiago, Chile.
