Markku Nurmi was a Finnish environmental ministerial official, active in environmental issues since the 1970s, known as a precursor to the Green movement. He served as the Editor-in-Chief of Ympäristö magazine starting in 2004. Nurmi earned a doctorate in technology specializing in production economics and worked for various government ministries before joining the Ministry of the Environment in 1994. His last project focused on renewable energy and climate change in Central America. He also influenced critical perspectives on nuclear power among Finnish politicians.
