Marie Teresa Ríos, known as Tere Ríos, was an American writer born on November 9, 1917. She authored 'The Fifteenth Pelican' in 1965, which inspired the 1960s television sitcom 'The Flying Nun'. Ríos was notable not only for her literary contributions but also as the mother of Humbert Roque Versace, the first U.S. Army prisoner of war in Southeast Asia to receive the Medal of Honor. She passed away on October 17, 1999.
