María Roldán Castros was one of the first female veterinarians, biologists, and professors in Spain. Born on January 8, 1912, in Madrid, she had to exile to Mexico after the Spanish Civil War. In Mexico, she served as Chief of the Biological Research and Production Department at the National Institute of Agricultural Research within the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock. Roldán had to naturalize to work in a public position. She was married to veterinarian Sigfredo Ordón, who was also the son of Félix Gordón Ordás, a veterinarian and President of the Republican Government in exile.
