She graduated in physical chemistry and became an assistant in acoustics and optics. Giurgea earned her Ph.D. in 1943 in electric discharges. She worked at the University of Bucharest and the Polytechnic Institute, while also conducting research at the Academy of Sciences. Known for her work in electric discharges in gases and light scattering, she became a member of the Romanian Academy and served as the president of its Physics Section.
