He was a key figure within the party, holding several important positions including general secretary of the Mexican Communist Youth and director of the party's newspaper. He co-founded the United Socialist Party of Mexico and later contributed to the formation of other political entities, shaping leftist politics in Mexico throughout the latter half of the 20th century.
