Marco Matta was an Italian aviator, born on January 7, 1964, in Avigliana. He served as a sergeant major pilot and observer in the Army Aviation. Tragically, he died on his 28th birthday during a mission for the European Community Monitor Mission (ECMM) when his AB-205 helicopter was shot down by a MiG-21 during the conflict in Yugoslavia. He was among several crew members who lost their lives in this incident, which occurred near the borders of Slovenia and Hungary.
