Manfred Punge (1931-2014) was a German Protestant theologian and director of the Theological Studies Department of the Federation of Protestant Churches in the GDR. He was an advocate for homosexuals in the church, actively working to combat exclusion and discrimination against LGBTQ+ believers. Punge completed his doctorate in theology focusing on the Gospel of Matthew. His leadership in 1982 prompted the formation of gay and lesbian groups in East Germany, promoting acceptance and dialogue within the church regarding homosexuality.
