He is a professor emeritus at the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan and a distinguished researcher at the Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics, Academia Sinica in Taiwan. Inoue contributed to the construction of the Nobeyama Radio Observatory and played a pivotal role in the observation of water maser sources, providing significant evidence for the existence of supermassive black holes.
