Makiko Takeya is a Japanese novelist born on February 17, 1953, in Kagoshima, Japan. She graduated from the English Literature Department of Keio University in 1975. Takeya gained recognition in 1995 when she won the 8th Shousetsu Subaruf Shinjin Prize for her work 'Eibun-ka A to Z'. She further established her career when she received the 1st Nikkei Fiction Prize in 2006 for her novel 'Thames no Abuku'.
