Makiko Hata (1910-1965) was a Japanese fashion designer and colorist renowned for her contributions to the knitting design community in Japan. She founded Shirahai-sha in 1951, which provided education in design, color, and drafting techniques to enhance the value of knitting crafts. Hata played a significant role in promoting the independence of war widows post-World War II. In 1961, she held the 'Makiko Hata Collection' at the Salons de l'Étoile in Paris, earning her the Honorary Citizen Award from the city of Paris.
