She focused on environmental protection, human rights, education, health, and combatting sexism and racism. After moving to Rio de Janeiro in the 1960s, she founded the terreiro Ilê Omiojuarô and led the NGO Criola, promoting anti-racism and women's rights. Recognized for her activism, she received accolades including a tribute at the 2014 Carnaval de Nova Iguaçu and the Tiradentes medal shortly before her death on May 27, 2017.
