She began translating Yang Lian's poems before her esteemed professional meeting with Gao in 1991, leading to a seven-year translation of 'Soul Mountain.' Her work faced criticism yet earned the 2001 NSW Premier's Translation Prize. After retirement, she continued translating Gao's works, including 'One Man's Bible.' Lee's translation of 'Gao Xingjian: Aesthetics and Creation' was published in 2012.
