Ma Shaobo, originally named Ma Zhiyuan, was a Chinese scholar of Chinese opera, known for his theoretical work, criticism, and playwriting. He served as a director of the Chinese Drama Association and was the vice president of the Chinese Academy of Traditional Opera. Born on March 8, 1918, in Yexian, Shandong, his pen names included Jiao Po, Zhiyuan, Su Yang, and Hong Shi. He made significant contributions to the appreciation and study of Chinese theatrical arts until his passing on November 29, 2009.
