Lygia Maria Sigaud was a Brazilian anthropologist and university professor born on February 28, 1945, in Rio de Janeiro. She served as an associate professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and was a pioneer in Brazilian anthropology, highlighting the poor working conditions in the sugar cane plantations of Pernambuco's Zona da Mata. An author of several books, her work focused on themes such as slavery and the exploitation of workers in the region. Additionally, she directed the culture and economy center at the National Museum.
