Lydia Komape-Ngwenya (1935-2023), known as Lydia Kompe, was a prominent South African politician and trade unionist. Active in the African National Congress, she served in the National Assembly from 1994 to 2009 and in the Limpopo Provincial Legislature from 2009 to 2019. Kompe's political career began in the mid-1970s with the Metal and Allied Workers' Union, and she was a key figure in advocating for women's issues during the apartheid negotiations through her work with the Black Sash and the Rural Women's Movement.
