Ludvík Kavín is a Czech and Austrian actor, theater director, dramaturg, and screenwriter, born on July 2, 1943, in Brno. He studied philosophy and history at university and was politically active, joining the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia (KSČ) but was expelled after 1968 for advocating democratization. After signing Charter 77 in 1977, he and his family went into exile in Vienna, where he founded Theater Brett with his wife, actress Nika Brettschneider. He briefly served as editor for Moravské noviny and as director of the National Theatre in Brno after 1989.
