Lucia Apolzan (1911-2001) was a Romanian anthropologist, educator, ethnologist, geographer, folklorist, memoirist, pedagogue, poet, and sociologist. She was a prominent interdisciplinary researcher of the Romanian rural village and its ancient civilization. Known as the 'Lady of the Carpathians', she was recognized for her meticulous studies and significant monographs which remain highly regarded today. Apolzan was persecuted during the communist regime in Romania but continued her influential research, especially concerning the Carpathian region.
