Louis J. Schaefer was an American jockey and trainer in Thoroughbred horse racing, born on December 27, 1907, and passing away on August 8, 1988. He is renowned for winning the Preakness Stakes both as a jockey in 1929 and as a trainer in 1939. Schaefer trained the notable horse Challedon, who earned American Horse of the Year honors. In his later years, he owned a bar and grill in Uniondale, New York, and died of a heart attack at the age of 80.
