Loren Eiseley (September 3, 1907 – July 9, 1977) was an American anthropologist, teacher, philosopher, and natural science writer. He taught and published several books from the 1950s to the 1970s, earning multiple honorary degrees and fellowships in various professional societies. At his death, he was a Benjamin Franklin Professor of Anthropology and the History of Science at the University of Pennsylvania. Eiseley was known for his literary approach to science, blending themes of nature and philosophical reflection in works such as 'The Immense Journey' and 'Darwin's Century'.
