Lin Zhiyuan was a prominent Chinese engineer, born on February 9, 1913, in Tianjin. He served as the chief engineer and deputy director of the Beijing Municipal Design and Research Institute. Notably, he was a master of engineering design in China and designed the flagpole used by Chairman Mao to raise the first national flag during the founding ceremony of the People’s Republic of China in 1949. His contributions to engineering and design have been recognized and preserved in national museums.
