He played a significant role in Malaysian politics as the third president of Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Gerakan) from 1980 until 2007. Known for his contributions to the party and governance, Lim was one of only four living Chinese Tunship holders in Malaysia before his passing in 2012.
