Lev Pavlovich Garkunov (March 16, 1901 – November 20, 1963, Moscow) was an influential figure in the Soviet chess movement, serving as an international arbiter since 1956. He was an engineer-economist and worked in the chess department of the All-Union Committee for Physical Culture and Sports. Garkunov judged the 5th correspondence championship of the USSR (1960-1963) and the Lviv semifinal of the USSR Championship in 1951. He authored and edited several significant chess publications.
