Lester Levern Merrifield (1921-2000) was an influential American orthodontist known for developing the Tweed-Merrifield philosophy during the 1950s. He graduated from Texas A&M University Baylor College of Dentistry and pursued further studies in orthodontics. Merrifield served in the U.S. Air Force, then established a long-term orthodontic practice in Oklahoma. He played a significant role at the Tweed Foundation, not only co-instructing but also chairing the board after the death of Dr. Charles H. Tweed. He was honored with multiple awards for his contributions to the field.
