He conducted research at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta for over 30 years, contributing around 140 scientific publications on toxic shock syndrome, listeria, histoplasmosis, and other diseases, and he made significant discoveries related to the bacteria responsible for Legionnaire's disease.
