Leo Mittelholzer was a Swiss politician and veterinarian born on March 24, 1923, in Appenzell. He studied veterinary medicine at the University of Zürich, graduating in 1948. He worked in his father's veterinary practice starting in 1950 and established his own practice from 1958 to 1965. Mittelholzer served on the Appenzell Innerrhoden Veterinary Education Council from 1964 to 1988, was a cantonal judge from 1962 to 1964, and was a member of the Standeskommission from 1964 to 1974, advocating for industrialization and combating foot-and-mouth disease.
