Leo De Maeyer was a Belgian chemist born on December 8, 1927, in Hombeek, Belgium. He served as a scientific member of the Max Planck Society and as the former director at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in Göttingen, Germany. He significantly contributed to the development of measurement methods for determining the rates of extremely rapid chemical reactions, which were recognized when Manfred Eigen received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1967.
