Leif Magnar Mæhle (1927–2016) was a prominent Norwegian literary researcher. Born in Sunndal, he edited the Norsk litterær årbok from 1966 to 1988. He completed a thesis on Olav Aukrust in 1969 and became a professor of Scandinavian literature at the University of Oslo from 1969 to 1997. Mæhle was a member of the Language Council of Norway from 1972 to 1988, chaired Det Norske Samlaget from 1972 to 1981, and served as secretary general of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters from 1986 to 1997.
