Lei Feng (December 18, 1940 – August 15, 1962) was a soldier in the People's Liberation Army of the People's Republic of China. After his death, he was regarded as selfless and humble, dedicating himself to the Communist Party and its leader Mao Zedong, as well as the Chinese people. The 'Learn from Comrade Lei Feng' campaign initiated by Mao in 1963 turned Lei into a national symbol, encouraging youth to emulate his spirit. Even after Mao's death, he remained a cultural icon representing selflessness and humility.
