Lee Hyangwon (real name: Lee Dong-ho) was a South Korean cartoonist born on August 21, 1944, in Yeongcheon, Gyeongsangbuk-do. He graduated from the Photography Department of Seorabeol Arts College in 1965 and debuted as a cartoonist in 1960 with the comic ‘Uinammae.’ He was recognized as an outstanding children's comic artist in 1990 and served as a reviewer for the Korean Publication Ethics Commission in 1998. Lee is regarded as one of the key figures in the revival of Korean comics during the 1970s and 1980s.
