In 1990, she was awarded the Newton Lacy Pierce Prize in Astronomy. Additionally, she is known for founding the American Astronomical Society's Committee for Sexual-Orientation & Gender Minorities in Astronomy (SGMA), which advocates for inclusivity in the field of astronomy.
