Kōichi Tachikawa was a Japanese historian born in Sapporo in August 1948. He specialized in French history, particularly the history of the French Revolution. Tachikawa obtained his bachelor's degree in History from Hokkaido University in 1971 and completed his master's degree there in 1975. He earned a doctorate from the University of Provence in 1979. Over his career, he worked at Hiroshima University and Hokkaido University before becoming a professor at Tsukuba University, where he eventually became a professor emeritus after retiring in 2011.
