His 1972 series Warrior of Love Rainbowman inspired Go Nagai's Cutie Honey. Additionally, he contributed to other shows like Seven Color Mask and Messenger of Allah. Kawauchi also wrote the screenplay for the film Tokyo Drifter directed by Seijun Suzuki. He passed away on April 6, 2008.
