Koene Dirk Parmentier was a Dutch aviation pioneer born on September 27, 1904, in Amsterdam. He was the chief pilot for KLM and a close friend of the airline's founder, Albert Plesman. Parmentier gained fame for his performance in the 1934 MacRobertson Air Race, where he and his crew secured second place flying a Douglas DC-2. During World War II, he helped organize flights from England to Lisbon and Gibraltar. Tragically, he died in an aircraft accident on October 20, 1948, when his Lockheed Constellation crashed in Scotland.
